The Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District is defined as a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our first Board meeting as a District was held in September of 1968. Before this time we were part of the neighboring Blue Ridge District.
We serve Bedford County and are governed by a five member Board of Directors. Three Directors are elected from the County while two are appointed by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board. Directors serve without pay.
Mission
To use available technical, financial and educational resources, whatever their source, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local citizens for conservation and wise use of soil, water and related resources.
Vision
The Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District with its partners will provide leadership and education to sustain and utilize Bedford’s natural resources in a manner that will enhance soil and water stewardship and foster pride in our District.
